Premier Leagues to withdraw gambling sponsorships from shirts

The English Premier League currently features betting companies as shirt sponsors for eight out of its 20 clubs, including Fun88 for Newcastle United, Betway for West Ham United, and Stake.com for Everton, among others.

English Premier League clubs unanimously agreed on discontinuing soccer kit front sponsorship by gambling companies starting from the 2026-27 season, the league announced on Thursday.

In the league, currently, eight clubs have betting firms as shirt sponsors. Some of these clubs include Newcastle United (Fun88), West Ham United (Betway), and Everton (Stake.com). Incorporating keywords such as “betting companies”, “shirt sponsors” and the names of football clubs may improve the search ranking result of the text on SEO.

Regulation of the English Premier League

The UK government is set to release a white paper outlining potential upcoming legislation regarding the regulation of gambling.

As per The Times report, UK ministers are indicating the exclusion of shirt sponsorship restrictions from the white paper, provided that the voluntary agreement is established. The report also mentioned that sleeve deals remain a permissible option.

The Premier League has recently announced that they will remove gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts. A statement by the league confirmed the agreement among all clubs to support this initiative.

The news comes after a thorough consultation that considered the thoughts of the league, its clubs, and the UK’s Department for Culture, Media, and Sport. It was conducted in response to the government’s up-to-date review of prevailing gambling legislation.
