Magnus Carlsen, the reigning world chess champion, has stated that he will never play Hans Niemann again and has accused the American teenager of cheating.
After making one move against Niemann, who is approximately 200 Elo points behind Carlsen, the previous week, Carlsen resigned from the Julius Baer Generation Cup. The rating system used to compare players’ skill levels is called ELO points.
Carlsen made the following statement via Twitter: “So far I have only been able to speak about my actions, and those actions have clearly stated that I am not willing to play chess with Niemann.”
Carlsen, who has been world champion since 2013, also dropped out of the Sinquefield Cup in St. Louis, Missouri, earlier this month after losing to a 19-year-old player for no apparent reason. This caused a storm of criticism and claims that Niemann had cheated. In over-the-board games, Niemann has denied any wrongdoing.
“I really thought about dropping out before the event when Niemann got a last-minute invitation to the 2022 Sinquefield Cup. Carlsen stated, “I ultimately chose to play.”
Carlsen stated on Monday, “I believe that Niemann has cheated more – and more recently – than he has publicly admitted.”
“In an over-the-board game, I have never cheated.” I will strip completely if they ask me to. I’m unconcerned. “Because I am clean, I know that,” he recently stated.
Last week, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) stated that it shared the Norwegians’ concerns regarding sport cheating.
Carlsen went on to say, “Chess organizers and all those who care about the sacredness of the game we love should seriously consider increasing security measures and methods of cheat detection for over-the-board chess.”
“We must take action against cheating, and for my part going forward, I don’t want to play against people who have cheated on a regular basis in the past because I don’t know what they can do in the future.”
