The first MotoGP race in India will take place in 2023, according to organizers, who hope to draw more spectators to the 1.4 billion-person nation. The first race will take place in Uttar Pradesh, which is south of New Delhi. It will be held on the Buddh International Circuit. The track has previously hosted three Formula One Grand Prix events between 2011 and 2013. The chief executive of Dorna, the organization and promoter of the MotoGP, Carmelo Ezpeleta, stated in a statement, “We have a lot of fans in India and we’re pleased to be able to bring the sport to them.”
India is a very important market for the motorcycle business and, by extension, for MotoGP, which is the best two-wheeled race.
India To Host MotoGP For First Time
Indian authorities are hoping that the event would lead to a boom in international investment given the country’s sizable population and more than 200 million motorcycles.
Anurag Thakur, India’s minister of sports, praised the decision as a historic moment for the sports industry in his nation.
The chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, stated, “Hosting such a worldwide event is a source of immense pride for Uttar Pradesh.
It happens shortly after Dorna declared that Kazakhstan will be included on the MotoGP schedule for the upcoming season.
The schedule for the upcoming season has not yet been made public, but each MotoGP will consist of two races: a sprint on Saturday and the grand prix on Sunday. Due to a decline in spectator numbers at some European Grands Prix, MotoGP is trying to increase its global exposure.
Without mentioning a date or circuit, Dorna and Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this month to have Saudi Arabia host one of the world championship rounds.
After coronavirus-related delays, MotoGP competition got underway at Thailand’s Buriram circuit for the first time since 2019.
Fabio Quartararo, the current world champion, is leading the championship standings with 219 points, followed by Francesco Bagnaia, an Italian, by 18 points.
