After days and nights of anticipation, the 50-over World Cup – to be hosted by India – is a mere three months away. To satiate cricket lovers’ appetite, ICC finally unveiled the schedule and the list of venues where the extravaganza will take place.
On October 5, the World Cup commences with England facing New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, a rematch of the 2019 Final. Meanwhile, India opens their campaign against Australia, five-time World Cup winners, in Chennai on October 8. The India-Pakistan match, a highly-anticipated encounter, is set for Sunday, October 15 in Ahmedabad.

Despite the apprehensions expressed by Najam Sethi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), concerning the upcoming India-Pakistan World Cup game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the much-anticipated fixture will indeed be played at that venue on October 15th. Sethi shared with this newspaper, “When I learned that the match would be in Ahmedabad, I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself – ‘This is surely one way of ensuring we don’t come to India’. Had it been played in Chennai or Kolkata, at least it might have appeared to make sense?”

The upcoming tournament holds matches in ten cities across India: Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Warm-up matches will also be held in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, in addition to Hyderabad, from September 29 to October 3.
